Supporting Black Birthing Families in Los Angeles County Navigating Loss

The AAIMM Compassion Response Funds provide up to $3,700 in direct support for Black birthing families in Los Angeles County who have experienced stillbirth, infant loss, or maternal loss. Administered by Black Girls Mental Health Foundation, this fund offers a simple, compassionate application process with minimal requirements.

Who These Funds Support

The AAIMM Compassion Response Funds are available for Black birthing families in Los Angeles County who have recently experienced:

  • Stillbirth

  • Infant loss

  • Maternal loss

Our goal is to provide families with support as they navigate grief, healing, and the immediate practical needs that often emerge during loss.

What the Funds Can Support

Immediate household expenses

Funeral or memorial-related costs

Transportation or logistical support

Mental health services

Grief and healing resources

Other needs determined by the family

Each family may determine how to use the support based on their unique circumstances.

Applications are submitted through BGMHF’s free therapy application portal.

After submitting your application, a member of our team will reach out to:

  • Confirm eligibility

  • Discuss support needs

  • Connect you with additional resources, if desired

Our team handles all information with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Funds are available until fully exhausted.

Families are encouraged to apply as soon as they are ready. There is no deadline, and there is no requirement to engage in therapy to receive financial support.

Additional Support & Resources

In addition to financial support, families may request:

  • Free or low-cost therapy

  • Peer support groups

  • Referrals to community-based organizations, doulas, and healers

These services are optional and available by request.

The African American Infant & Maternal Mortality Prevention Initiative (AAIMM) is a countywide effort working to reduce the disproportionately high rates of Black maternal and infant mortality in Los Angeles County. AAIMM invests in culturally aligned, community-rooted solutions that honor, protect, and uplift Black birthing people and their families.

Black Girls Mental Health Foundation is a Black-led, community-centered nonprofit delivering mental health care, perinatal support, workforce development, and healing-focused services across California and Georgia. As administrators of the Compassion Response Funds, we are committed to ensuring families receive support with dignity, love, and care.
