Volunteer With Us
Black Girls Mental Health Foundation exists to close the gap in culturally responsive mental health care for Black and Brown women, from the perinatal period through motherhood and beyond. Our clinical capacity is still small, which means volunteers are not a nice to have, they are core to how we reach the community. When you volunteer, you are the reason a mother hears about a support group she did not know existed, or a young woman finds a therapist who looks like her and gets it.
Volunteer Opportunities
-

Event and Tabling Support
Staff outreach tables, greet attendees, and distribute flyers and program information at community events. You are often the first face a mama sees when she learns about BGMHF.
-

Diaper Bag Preparation
Assemble diaper bags with essential supplies for community members. Bags are distributed at events or delivered directly to families' doors. A simple task with a direct, tangible impact.
-

Program and Event Staffing
Support logistics at BGMHF-hosted events including support groups, open house and connection nights, trainings, and retreats. Help our team stay focused on the mamas we are serving.
-

Virtual Volunteer Roles
Support virtual support groups, trainings, and background administrative work for those who cannot attend in person. Location is no barrier to making a difference.
-

Internships
For students and early-career professionals wanting hands-on experience alongside our clinical and community work. Build real skills in the maternal mental health space while giving back.
-

Skilled and Professional Volunteering
For those with relevant backgrounds in health education, doula work, or peer leadership who want to guest-lead a session or training. Your expertise directly strengthens our programs.
You belong here if you care about maternal wellness. You do not need a clinical background. You need to care about the mission and be willing to show up for it.
Who Should Volunteer
Community members, students, sorority and fraternity organizations, and campus groups
Professionals including therapists, doulas, and health educators looking to give back
Anyone 18 or older. Ages 15 to 17 are eligible when affiliated with a high school volunteer program
Anyone willing to complete a short application: registration form, a one-minute video intro, valid state ID, emergency contact, and a liability waiver
Where We Volunteer
Opportunities are organized by county/regions, so volunteers can find events near them. Current active regions include Orange County, Los Angeles County, San Diego County, Riverside County, Contra Costa County, and Alameda County, and more, with opportunities also available virtually for those outside these areas. All opportunities, in-person and virtual, are listed and managed through our volunteer dashboard, where volunteers can browse events by location, sign up, and update their availability.
