BGMH Foundation Opens Call for Proposals for the 2026 Black Perinatal Mental Health Summit
The free virtual gathering returns December 9 with a focus on what happens before mothers reach a breaking point.
BGMH Foundation, in partnership with The Amani Project, is inviting proposals for the Black Perinatal Mental Health Summit 2026, a free virtual event taking place on December 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific Time.
This gathering brings Black mothers, providers, researchers, birthworkers, and community members together to examine how mental health concerns are recognized and how families receive support.
This year’s theme, “Before the Breaking Point: What we miss, what isn’t safe to say, & what happens next,” begins with questions that matter in everyday life and care. What might a mother hesitate to tell someone? What happens when her symptoms do not match expectations? When someone offers a referral, can she actually get the help she needs?
The summit will make room for these conversations through two tracks: a Provider Track and a Mother and Community Track.
An invitation to shape the program
The call for proposals welcomes research, lessons from practice, community perspectives, and lived experience that can help participants better understand and support Black mothers and families.
Proposals should connect to the summit’s theme and explore questions such as:
What do mothers need to feel safe sharing difficult experiences?
How can providers recognize concerns when symptoms do not fit familiar patterns?
What helps families move from a referral to receiving care?
The goal is to create a program participants can carry into their work, their relationships, and their own decisions about seeking support.
Full proposal guidelines are available at https://bit.ly/bmmhs-rfp. Proposals can be submitted at https://bit.ly/bmmhsummit-apply.
A free gathering for mothers and providers
The Mother and Community Track welcomes Black mothers, pregnant and postpartum people, and their supporters to explore concerns, ask questions about care, and learn about support. Participants do not need a professional background to attend.
The Provider Track offers space to reflect on practice, learn from different perspectives, and consider what happens after a mental health concern is identified.
Admission is free for both audiences. Continuing education credits will not be offered.
The event will also include a giveaway of 10 gift cards worth $100 each for mamas, with each winner choosing their store. Eligibility and entry details will be shared separately.
